[Dar Es Salaam - Phuket] Day 4 -- The Leak

The morning of day four brought another surprise. We found substantial amounts of water in the state room, next to the bed with no idea where it came from. After cleaning it off it would reappear after some hours. Water in your boat is just not what you're wishing for when crossing an ocean! It didn't feel much better to find it to be fresh water. So our tank was leaking somewhere and that precious stuff ensuring our survival was happily floating from one side to another on the state room floor. Not good! Still, we decided to first watch the amounts and worry later.

While steering was still difficult we had somehow gotten used to it. We adjusted the autopilot every couple of minutes and got by that way. Every once in a while someone would still curse the pilot for getting off course once again. We started making some speed on sails, but at a price. The boat, apparently having not much of a keel for its rigging, cranked to the side heavily even with moderate winds blowing. We worried about how much speed we'd actually be able to make with this ship and how long our journey would eventually take.
